To support their future growth, KOVO Koukola decided to implement the Infor VISUAL ERP information system back in 2012. The VISUAL IS completely covers all their business processes that include initial quotation handling procedures through customer order handling procedures with related manufacturing, planning, deadline monitoring and workstation buffer filling procedures, up to final shipping and invoicing procedures.
The company produces customized products, with actual production initiated by customer orders where costing, meeting deadlines and fast access to financial outputs are high priorities.
Users require mainly perfect visibility of the work in progress and immediate view of the current state of progress of particular orders. The solution lies in real-time hours accounting where every employee reports actual operation starting and ending, which process is chip-controlled. The hours accounting procedure takes place right in a workshop at a so-called “kiosk” equipped with a touch display. When reporting operations completed, employees report numbers of pieces completed. The application can handle multiple-machine operation, automated material issues as well as product receipts to the target location where finished products are stored after passing through the final operation.
“Metal working is the main specialization of our company. Our traditional domains include traditional metal working methods like turning, milling, and grinding. The rapid growth of our company in recent several years is a result of our customers’ content”, says Mr. Aleš Koukola, Executive Director.
Besides parts manufactured according to customer specifications (made of company owned as well as supplied materials or semi-products), KOVO Koukola produce also their own cutting tools. More than fifty core CNC workstations working in three shifts constitute the very heart of the company.
Another interesting point of the implementation in the metal working area is solving the problem of tracing actual costs dependent on the workability of input materials. The workability and related costs differ between soft materials like aluminum and hard materials like stainless steel where the costs are significantly higher.
The complete VISUAL functionality provides the company full support in its growth, with great emphasis placed on such essential parts like manufacturing and sales control, production planning, and documentation and quotation handling. Fast implementation without undesirable impact on company routine operations is of no less importance.
KOVO Koukola now have efficient tools able to provide full visibility throughout company processes from production control and subsequent warehousing and sales management up to financials and cost control.
“Primary objectives of the implementation of the manufacturing control system have been met. We now focus our attention on the area of controlling and resource utilization handling. These are areas where we can see a great potential for further productivity improvement, mainly through the utilization of the information stored in VISUAL”, closes Aleš Koukola.
